What is clinical hypnosis?

One of the definitions I like best describes hypnosis as an active receptivity. This means that during hypnosis you are more receptive to ideas, or in other words, to suggestions, that are presented to you. Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness. While in this altered state, you will typically feel extremely relaxed. It is thought that not only the conscious mind, but the unconscious mind also is focused and open to therapeutic suggestions during hypnosis.

How is hypnosis regarded by my medical doctors?

The use of hypnosis is endorsed by the American Medical Association.

Can hypnosis be done with children?

Children from eight to twelve years of age are quite receptive to hypnosis.

How does hypnosis work?

Suggestions are meant to work on both conscious and unconscious levels. When both parts of your mental apparatus are working in unison with one another, your chances increase for changing your behavior in a desirable direction.

Will my health insurance cover treatment?

Many health insurance plans cover treatment by a licensed clinical psychologist. I will help you determine your level of coverage if you are unclear whether my services will be covered.

Conclusion

I will do everything I can to make hypnosis a positive and beneficial experience for you. As a clinical psychologist, I can also use other treatment methods as well. I often teach people meditation, for example. If "talking therapy" is more suited to help with your condition, that is also available.

If you haven't already scheduled an appointment, and if after reading this you decide the time is still not quite right, I hope you will consider contacting me for an appointment if you decide in the future to obtain clinical hypnosis. I will be just as eager then to serve your needs as I am now. If you have made an appointment, I hope this information helps pave the way to a very positive and beneficial experience.
